Conversation Group: Grassroots Christianity

This is an informal group that plans to meet 4-8 times over the summer, as participants are interested and available, to discuss what most excites, intrigues, perplexes and challenges us about Christian faith, spirituality and practice.  So far we plan to give each participant one “session” to present the ideas that are inspiring or challenging to them, and for the group as a whole to ponder, discuss, pray and practice together.  But the group might change its plan based on the needs presented over time.  Come and see! If you are looking for a place to tackle your faith, set the agenda and learn in a truly collaborative, lay-led, non-scholarly environment, this is for you.  Folks with lots of questions, wannabees, the wildly enthusiastic, and other followers of the way of Jesus welcome—contact Liz Farmer at farme086@umn.edu

The next session will be Sunday, July 14 at 6pm.  We will meet at St. Matthews and (probably) walk across the street to the park. Bring your calendar and a picnic dinner, preferably items to share with others.

Project Home Information Session

During the month of August, St Matthews’ undercroft will become a temporary shelter for homeless children and their parents in Project Home, a program of the St Paul Area Council of Churches. St Matthew’s and neighborhood churches will cooperate in supplying volunteers to help staff and support these families. Sunday, June 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the St Matthews library, Sarah Liegl will give a PowerPoint presentation about Project Home for potential volunteers, and answer questions. Join volunteers from the neighborhood churches as well as St Matthew’s parishioners who are interested in learning more about Project Home.

Graduation Party

Please join us for a Graduation Party celebrating all those graduating from any program this spring. There will be delicious hors-d'oeuvres and great company at 5:30, followed by the last evening service of the season at 7:00 p.m.

We especially celebrate the Rev. Blair Pogue and her recent graduation from Luther Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Leadership and Mission.

All are welcome!

All-Parish Celebration and Potluck

Our annual end-of-the-year celebration includes an All-Parish Potluck in the parish hall after the 10:30 am service this Sunday. This is an opportunity to honor the teachers and children of our parish and mark the end of a successful learning year for our Christian formation programs.

We are asking each family to contribute a main dish or salad. Dessert will be provided, as well as hot dogs for the children. Sign-up sheets are in the parish hall. If you are able to help organize, prepare or clean up after this event, please contact Terese Lewis.

Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday celebrates the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, our church community and in our world.

The festive worship service features special music as well as a reading of the gospel from many different languages. Everyone is invited to wear the color red!

A reception will be held after the service in the parish hall.
